Our Organization

Dubuque Figure Skating is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and growing the sport of figure skating in our community.  Through both recreational and competitive programs, we strive to teach beginners how to skate, develop their skills, and showcase their talent at regional competitions.  Dubuque Figure Skating utilizes curriculum developed by the United States Figure Skating Association and endorsed by USA Hockey. The objectives of the program are:

• To provide a fun and safe skating experience for the beginner as well as the more advanced skater
• To teach correct technique of the simple basic elements
• To promote health and physical fitness
• To enable all participants to achieve the skills necessary to either skate for fun the rest of the lives or to move competently into the U.S. Figure Skating advance test and/or competitive structure

Our Founders

Elizabeth Davies

Elizabeth Davies grew up skating competitively in the Chicago area, advancing through competitions in the Midwest and training alongside Olympic medalists in Lake Arrowhead, California. In college she taught group lessons and coached figure skaters, continuing to compete herself until moving to Dubuque in 2005. With no established figure-skating programs, Elizabeth was inspired to help start Learn to Skate.

Tammy Remakel-Ryan

Tammy Remakel-Ryan grew up skating in Dubuque and was a member of the original Dubuque Figure Skating Club until its dissolution. Although not a seasoned competitive skater, She has helped lead the Learn to Skate program since its inception, and has made skating fun for even the youngest of those who join her on the ice. Tammy enjoys helping area youth discover skating and developing their skills, and wants to give today's youth the chance she did not have: to fulfill their skating dreams.
